I am running for Pittsburgh City Council to ensure that council includes a strong, progressive voice; to encourage council to act as a check and balance on the mayor's office when necessary; to give residents of the Fifth District a fresh perspective on the challenges that we face; and to provide voters with a viable choice at the polls.

As a member of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee, I have worked hard to serve as a conduit for information and concerns between my neighbors and our elected officials in order to ensure responsive government. As a committeeman, I've consistently encouraged my friends and neighbors to vote for progressive Democratic candidates and I have supported a range of causes that will make our city a better place to live.

Put simply, my candidacy for City Council is an expansion of these basic yet vital political tasks. My professional and life experiences have prepared me for the hard work of creating accessible and responsible government for the Fifth District, and for all of Pittsburgh. Such a government will build prosperity and maximize the potential, while respecting the history, of the city's neighborhoods. It will prevent urban blight, address homeownersí concerns, improve and fully utilize public spaces in a cost-effective manner, contribute to job creation, protect our air and water, and promote high-quality education and dependable, affordable public transportation.

If elected, I will make sure that the Fifth Districtís concerns are heard. I will also be a strong progressive voice on council and will encourage my colleagues to cooperate with each other and with the mayor, and to act as a check and balance on the executive branch of city government when necessary.

I look forward to speaking with you in the weeks ahead, not only about my candidacy, but also about your thoughts for the cityís future.
